Bandol : its beaches and its rose wine !

Formerly composed of small fishermen’s huts, the seaside resort of Bandol in the Var is now a popular destination renowned for its beauty, its landscapes, its beaches and for its vineyards that give a rose coloured wine, the symbol of Provence. Like many of his neighbours, the town enjoys a pleasant climate throughout the year.

The port of Bandol in France

The port of Bandol

The primary interest of Bandol is its coastline. It is one of the oldest resorts on the coast and has eleven beaches (one on Bendor Island). And there is something for everyone: pebbles and rocks to the west, white sand to the east and coves along the coastline, visitors will find their happiness. The beach of Engraviers, composed of pebbles, is the most difficult to find because it is hidden away in nature, well protected by dunes and pine trees. But its untamed side will easily seduce you! About fifty metres from the port, the main town beach is frequented by families like that in front of the Casino, lined with palm trees. Renécros Beach, in a cove, is a tropical paradise.

In the town, do not miss the Saint-François-de-Sales church, built in 1746. The nave shelters a superb wooden Christ carved in the thirteenth century. In the evening, go towards the port to taste the wines of the region and some seafood. The Charles de Gaulle quay is bustling like the Casino of the town which allow you to party through the night!

La Cadière d'Azur

The village of La Cadière d'Azur with its vineyards – We are in Provence!

While enjoying your stay, why not escape into the countryside. Go to the village of Beausset for example, about ten kilometres away. The ruins of the first village are on the top of the hill. You can especially enjoy the superb views across the surrounding countryside. There also exists a small chapel of the twelfth century and a gallery of hundreds of shrines dedicated to the Virgin. The village, below, has a trail leading to Beausset-Vieux to discover Provençal traditions. Nearby, La Cadiere d'Azur is a typical village in Provence that has retained its medieval architecture and that you can visit on foot. Its narrow streets are very pleasant to stroll through and appreciate the beauty and the atmosphere of the village. Its Mazarine door and Saint-Jean door, Madeleine chapel or the square of Penitents-Blancs are among the things not to miss. The view of the mountain of Sainte-Baume and the vineyards is breath-taking. A little higher, Le Castellet also deserves to be visited; fortified village still has its old castle occupied by the town hall. Rendez-vous on a stone balcony to enjoy the view over the surrounding valleys. The artisans settled in the old mansions of the town; one belonged to the Templar Knights! This is the perfect place to fill your head with memories.

And if time permits, go to discover Sanary-sur-Mer, Six-Fours-les-Plages and La Ciotat!
